Testimonials

Carter was my sailing coach back in the 90’s at the Lake Winnipesaukee Sailing Association (LWSA) in New Hampshire.  We have remained close and I have since had the pleasure to travel & race with Carter on a number of occasions.  His confident demeanor is infectious, his prowess to navigate around any course is impressive and his ability to translate his tactics & skills to the crew is gallant.  He’s got a knack of vocalizing and communicating what he’s thinking, making the Crew better informed and savvy to the complicated layers and nuances of sailing.   I am a better sailor when Carter is on the boat, those experiences have sharpened my ability to quickly evaluate situations, weigh the risk / reward and attack.

Carter has been an exceptional resource for my one-design sailing and provides expert knowledge of tuning, boat handling and speed tips.  It obviously helps that Carter can provide affordable sailing apparel and new Q sails when I need them.  He knows what sailors need, what we like and who we are. He can elevate any sailing program to the next level.

I have known Carter White for more than twenty years.  When I first started racing on Casco Bay in Maine on our J/32 Carter was a great resource for helping our program grow, improve and compete, and we bought our first suit of sails from him as well.  Carter introduced me to other racing programs and got me involved in a Farr 43 that was racing the coast of New England and we raced together on that boat for several campaigns.

A few years later I purchased a J/80 to race and day sail and Carter was not only a huge resource but also extremely generous with his one-design knowledge regarding tuning, boat handling and more.  We even sailed together in the 2010 infamous J/80 Worlds where it blew over 25 knots each day of the regatta.

I am now, back to the J/32 for a bit more cruising comfort and weekend racing and Carter has been my go to guy for our new racing sails.  If you are looking for a resource to help your sailing, Carter can be a tremendous value to your program, look him up!

Carter and I have sailed with and against each other for over 2 decades.   I prefer the results when we race together.  Carter was an integral part of our Swan 42 campaign where he expertly trimmed mainsail for many regatta wins including the Swan 42 US National Championships twice.  I have trusted Carter to skipper both my J/105 and J/80, when I wasn't available to race the boats, as I knew I could count on him to represent me well (and make the podium).  He has managed and promoted many of the events that I have had the pleasure to compete.  Carter is extending his extensive racing experience and sailmaking knowledge to coaching and Race Management.   A logical extension which will benefit the teams he coaches and the races where he is involved.

I have had the pleasure of sailing with Carter on my J 24 a few times and have learned something new every time we sail. He is a wealth of knowledge and a great guy to be around.

One of the first things that he taught me is how to properly set my mast and to center it properly.   He showed me a different method of making sure my mast was in an optimal position and I have used that method ever since.

The second thing that he did for me was help me with my tuning guide.  I was using an old Loos Gauge and he showed me how to use a Spinlock gauge which is much more accurate.   Having a proper tuning guide is key to having a successful regatta.  We took the time to develop a proper one for my boat.

What most impressed me about Carter is his starting tactics.  He knows all the tricks of the trade and showed me how to have to be in the best position to get ahead of the pack.   Getting ahead of the pack at the start allows you to get clean air the rest of the race.  His wealth of knowledge and experience makes every start look easy.

I always thought my boat was pretty quick but with help of Carter, my boat became a rocket ship.   Once we crossed the starting line, the race was over! We continued pulling away from everyone.   Just taking the time to set up the mast and to properly tune the boat made all the difference.  Of course, being taught how to do it correctly is the KEY!!   Carter has all the keys to making your boat fast!

With Carter’s help, we easily won the regatta.  We said our good-bye’s and went on our merry way.   The next morning,  I was pleasantly surprised to see that I had an email from him.  In this email, he listed all of the things that I needed to change on my boat to make it work more efficiently.  He made suggestions on just about every piece of hardware used on my deck ,  where I needed to add more hardware, and some criticism of my sheets that I used.  He had written almost two pages of bullet points to help improve how things worked.  After reading his suggestions and implementing them, I now can say that I have the best boat in my District….

If you can get Carter on your boat for the weekend, it is time and money well spent.   The obvious and simple suggestions he makes will make a world of difference in your boat speed.   He has been doing this for a long time and you will quickly see why he has been so successful for so long.  Having Carter White on your boat is a recipe for success.

Carter came aboard our J24 in the early 2000s to call tactics and became a regular on the team.  With his help, we ran a successful campaign over several seasons, ultimately finishing 3rd in the East Coast Championships and leading us to the J24 Worlds for the first time.  Since then Carter and I have remained great friends and have worked together numerous times over the years, both on the water and off.

As the boat captain for a NYYC Swan 42 program, I knew Carter would be a great fit.  We had him with us both as a mainsail trimmer and occasional tactician for several national championships and large IRC regattas.  Carter easily elevated his game and proved invaluable over the years on the bigger boat, with a bigger team, and on a bigger stage. His knowledge of sail trim, speed and tactics is superb and his desire to make sure the whole team is involved and understand their roles in working together is a great find among sailing professionals.  Carter’s calm demeanor, humor and vision make him an invaluable asset aboard any program.  He is a pleasure to sail with.
